Goa Electronics Limited's PRISMS Software wins National CSI-Nihilent e-Governance Award 2009

The PRISMS software developed by GEL for the Prisons Department of Goa has bagged the National CSI-Nihilent e-Governance Award of Excellence for 2009. These awards are given yearly by the Computer Society of India for best IT initiatives implemented in the country in the field of e-Governance. Among 60 Projects nominated in the first level, PRISMS has manged to bag the award for excellence in the G2G/G2C Category of Services. The Software is a fully in-house product designed, developed and implemented by GEL.

The Software was implemented in July 2008 under the guidance of Inspector General of Prisons, Shri. Mihir Vardhan and was inaugrated in Feb 2009 by the Honble Home Minister Shri. Ravi Naik and Leader of the Opposition Shri. Manohar Parrikar. Today the Software is fully functional across all jails of the state and carries information regarding each prisoner in the jail. The most important feature of the system is that within a short span of a year the software is implemented and fully utilized by all jails across the State. Today the office of Inspector General of Prisons can view details of every prisoner admitted in any of the jails which include his Parole/Furlough, PPC, Work Wages, Bail, Medical History, Transfers, Remission etc.

Though GEL is a Government Undertaking, it is one of the few corporations who sustain and operate on their own without any funding from the state Government. Until June 2009 the Corporation was recognized as an agency to provide computerization services to all government departments. During this period GEL successfully implemented many projects in the Department of Transport, Printing and Stationary, Revenue, Directorate of Settlement and Land Records and Inspector General of Prisons. However, in July 2009 Department of Finance withdrew this special recognition of GEL as a State Level Agency thereby giving a major setback to all projects in pipeline for GEL.

The Corporation has been continuously promoting local talent and delivering standard IT solutions to the Government Departments.
